H.E Mr Molosiwa Selepeng presents Letters of Credentials as High Commissioner of Botswana to Samoa

Details: The High Commissioner undertook an official visit to Samoa from 20th-24th June 2011 to present his Letters of Credentials to His Highness Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, Head of State of the Independent State of Samoa.

During the credentials ceremony on 21st June 2011, the High Commissioner congratulated the Government and people of Samoa for the recent successful General Election held in March which resulted in a landslide victory for the ruling Human Rights Protection Party. Although Botswana and Samoa have not yet developed substantial bilateral cooperation, the High Commissioner stated that the establishment of diplomatic relations in March 2010 and his appointment as Botswana’s first High Commissioner to Samoa paved way for the two countries to explore and build strong ties of friendship and cooperation.

In response, the Head of State indicated that it was indeed a momentous occasion for both countries as it marked the first time a High Commissioner from Botswana had presented Credentials to Samoa. His Highness extended his best wishes of good health to His Excellency the President and committed to work towards strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

While in Samoa, the High Commissioner also paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister Hon. Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, other senior Government officials and on some members of the Diplomatic Corps.

Botswana's 44th Independence Day

Details: The Botswana High Commission is to celebrate its 44th Independence Day on Thursday 30th September 2010 at the High Commission's Pula Hall.

Botswana High Commission Staff in Canberra, Australia donate to Gamodubu Child Care Trust in Botswana

Details: The Botswana High Commission staff in Canberra donated A$1600/ P9500 to Gamodubu Child Care Trust in Botswana which deals with 200 orphaned and vulnerable children. The donation was handed over by the High Commissioner, H.E. Mr Molosiwa Selepeng on 10th December 2010 to the Center's Coordinator Ms Shelly Mdikwe. The money is to be used to buy clothes and toys for the needy children
The donation was done in the spirit of giving during the festive season and is in line with Botswana's Pillars of Vison 2016 of a Just, Caring and Compasionate nation.

H.E the President of Botswana to visit Australia

Details: The President of Botswana, His Excellency Seretse Khama Ian Khama is scheduled to visit Australia on a four day State Visit, from 1st-4th March 2010.While in Australia, H.E the President will hold official talks with the Governor General of Australia, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC as well as the Prime Minister of Australia, Hon. Kevin Rudd.
His Excellency the President will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Phandu T.C Skelemani and Senior Government Officials.
H.E the President’s visit to Australia follows recent visits to Botswana by the Governor General of Australia, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC, in March 2009 and the Australian Foreign Minister, Hon. Stephen Smith in January 2010.

Renewal of Botswana drivers licence notice

Details: NOTICE-RENEWAL OF EXPIRING DRIVING LICENCES FOR BATSWANA ABROAD
1.Following the renewal of the new credit card type driving licences which commenced in Botswana in 2008, the Ministry of Works and Transport has received complaints on the indefinite incremental penalty charges (P20 per day) on late renewals. These penalty charges have affected in particular, those working in missions, on training and employed in other countries.

2. Those affected are encouraged and made aware that you are allowed to renew your licences three (3) months before it expires as such they should where possible use this window.

3. Notwithstanding the above and in appreciation of the circumstances some face as stated in paragraph two above it has been decided to put the following measures in place to accommodate such special circumstances of Batswana outside the country by accepting representation of their choice (e.g family member, colleague, friend etc in Botswana) provided the following documents are availed:

a) A copy of the ID (Omang or Passport) of the licence holder (may be faxed)
b) A certified copy of the drivers licence (may be faxed)
c) A letter or faxed copy of the letter authorizing the representative
d) A certified copy of ID of the representative
e) The driving licence fee (P70.00) receipt issued

4. When the licence holder is back in Botswana and shows up for the driving licence to be issued he/she will be required to produce the following:

a) The Receipt
b) His /her identification (Omang or Passport)
c) Undergo eye screening
d) Sign DL 1 Application form
